Recently it snowed in Baghdad for the first time in 100 years (see this article), and now it’s getting very cold in Greenland (see this article). Temps have dropped to minus 25 degrees C, clogging Disko Bay with ice up to 50 cm thick. Of course, global warming alarmists are reporting that these events don’t mean global warming’s over. Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
Web publisher James Moore (owner of lieofglobalwarming.com) has launched a free discussion forum at ScienceorDogma.com to foster healthy discourse and debate on the question of man’s impact on global warming. All are welcome to join and participate, the only requirement is that everyone must remain respectful. Other controversial issues on the table for discussion include evolution and intelligent design, and other hot topics will be added based on user feedback.

On Monday, December 10, 2007 Al Gore and the UN IPCC accepted their Nobel Peace Prize for raising awareness of Global Warming, while on the
same day the American Midwest was slammed with a horrendous ice storm. In Oklahoma alone as of Wednesday this storm has been blamed for 32 deaths according to this AP report. Then these climate prophecy zealots including Mr. Gore headed to a luxury resort in Bali for a two-week forum on Global Warming. According to this Bloomberg report their travel will produce as much carbon in the atmosphere as 20,000 cars do in a year. An international team of skeptical scientists showed up at the forum, and had a clear message for the participants of the forum: “Climate change is a non-problem. The right answer to a non problem is to have the courage to do nothing.” See more about these level-headed scientists and their reception at the conference here.
Once, great scientific minds like Albert Einstein were awarded the Nobel Prize. Now, one can be had for creating a bad sci-fi horror flick. Mr. Gore said in a statement, “We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual (???) challenge to all of humanity.” I’m not Catholic, but I’ll take the Pope’s side on this one.

A most excellent article has been written by the President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus, entitled ’Freedom, not climate, is at risk’…here’s a teaser:
Does it make any sense to speak about warming of the Earth when we see it in the context of the evolution of our planet over hundreds of millions of years? Every child is taught at school about temperature variations, about the ice ages, about the much warmer climate in the Middle Ages. All of us have noticed that even during our life-time temperature changes occur (in both directions).
Due to advances in technology, increases in disposable wealth, the rationality of institutions and the ability of countries to organise themselves, the adaptability of human society has been radically increased. It will continue to increase and will solve any potential consequences of mild climate changes.

I initially thought Al’s movie was being shown free (at colleges here in the US)
as a way of giving Al Gore free political advertising, but I think Kurt
(and others he cites) has hit the nail on the head.
Lawrence Solomon of the Financial Post has been profiling global warming ‘dissenters,’ and has reached the conclusion that Al Gore’s assertions of a broad consensus behind the global warming camp, are unsubstantiated. Here’s a good quote from Lawrence’s June 2, 2007 Financial Post article:
Certainly there is no consensus at the very top echelons of scientists — the ranks from which I have been drawing my subjects — and certainly there is no consensus among astrophysicists and other solar scientists, several of whom I have profiled. If anything, the majority view among these subsets of the scientific community may run in the opposite direction. Not only do most of my interviewees either discount or disparage the conventional wisdom as represented by the IPCC, many say their peers generally consider it to have little or no credibility. In one case, a top scientist told me that, to his knowledge, no respected scientist in his field accepts the IPCC position.
